Paradise
Been a while since I last put up a post...too much fun being had :)
Besides having a nasty cold that kept me housebound for three days, I really enjoyed Rome.
The history is mind numbing, almost to a point where you fail to notice 2000 year old monuments and artifacts as you walk along the streets. Here are some pics from Rome!

Marble statues in the Coliseum

Inside the Coliseum

At Trevi Fountain - was really amazing

The backsplash in Nero's kitchen. No joke

Inside the Vatican museum

Saint Peter's Basilica and Square

Piazza Navona

Spanish Steps

Sunset of my last night in Rome, while having a tasty beverage
I ending up spending about one and half weeks in Rome, although I have a feeling that I will be back there at some point on this trip. You could probably spend a year there and still not take in everything.
I have been in Sorrento (actually a little town just north called Sant Agnello) staying at an amazing hostel that might have one of the best views I have ever seen. It has a rooftop deck that allows you to take in all 360 degrees and for some reason the beer and wine just tastes better up there!
A few days ago, I took a boat out to the island of Capri and have to say that it was one of the best experiences of my life. I was able to go swimming in grottos, climb into caves and check out the nice little city on the island.

Didn't know that color existed before I was swimming in it

On Capri
I also went to Pompeii and that was amazing as well. Couldn't believe how large the city actually was and how well it had been preserved. Well worth a visit if you are ever in the area.

The central plaza

Poor guy was caught by surprise

Original marble of Pompeii

One of the many streets

Yep. That's what you think it is. The Pompeiian brothel. This was only one of six pictures still on the walls.

And my view while writing this today in Sant Agnello. My life is pretty good!
Off to Florence tomorrow!!

Roma, Italia
My time in Portugal is something I will never forget. Lisbon was good, but Porto was great. The people I met along the way were even better. It was one of the best times in my life and would love to go back at some point soon.
But nothing is forever and now I'm in a country that I've dreamt about for years. Having studied Italian, worked at a great Italian restaurant for five years and throw in the fact that it is running through my veins (ok, I'm just a quarter), I couldn't be happier to have landed in Rome.
I have been welcomed graciously by Francesca and her family and the first few days have been more than pleasant. Eating more than I should - I can't resist because it is so damn good - but isn't that a prerequisite for being an Italian in Italy for the first time??
Here are just a few pics from a quick stroll around Rome last night. It really is breathtaking to look up and see something that is 2000 years old.

The Coliseum

Roman Empire, the beginning

The advancement

Even further...

The height of the Empire

Marcus Aurelius

Tre colore

The Pantheon

The Coliseum at dusk

The best carni in Roma, Sauro's Centro Carni (for all you KC folk, it is Giorgio's family that runs it)
Well, that's about it for now. Off to enjoy another picture perfect Roman afternoon!

Pics of Porto
The past few days have been a whirlwind. I checked into a great hostel last Saturday and have had so much fun and met so many incredible people, I'll be here until Friday before I take off for Rome.
Below are some pics of Porto, the second biggest city in Portugal. It is a physically stunning city, with the Duoro river at the center of it. If you ever have the chance to visit, do it. (side note-Especially if you are male and single. Beautiful women in droves. I've never seen anything like it). Moving on to the pics now...hope you enjoy!

Famous Portuguese tile

Ponte Luis 1

View of Porto (on right side of the Duoro)

Calem, one of the many Port makers situated on the south side of the river

Porto and the Duoro going out to the Atlantic

Afraid of heights? Don't look down!

More of that tile...

Taken from a tram ride up to the top of the Luis 1 bridge
That's about it for now. Two more days in a city that has truly amazed me!
Ciao!
